Canucks First Strides Hockey

There was an ad on the BC hockey website for the Canucks First Strides Hockey.  They pick 72 registered minor hockey players in BC to take part.  Carson Steel and his brother Robbie were selected.

Carson is wearing the blue Canucks jersey and yellow skate laces. Robbie Steel is wearing the grey Canucks jersey and has a yellow stick.

At home, Carson plays on the MacDermott's Flames Novice team.  Robbie plays for Tim Horton's Flyers Mites team.

The event took place January 22nd at GM Place. They divided all the kids into 2 groups.  Each group goes on the ice at GM Place and does a number of different skills and drills with BC hockey coaches, as well as Fin (the mascot).

Vancouver Canuck players such as Kyle Wellwood and Tanner Glass joined them and worked with all the kids.  They were on the ice for about 1.5 hours.

Later they all got signatures from the players.  Then the kids went with the instructors to have a seminar to teach them off ice stuff and respect for other teammates, coaches, referees and parents.  As the kids were doing this, a lady in charge of the safety courses in all of BC did a seminar for just the parents.

Each child got a jersey and a water bottle.  A great experience for everyone!!
