The
Bantam A Bulldogs decisively defeated Comox Chiefs in a home game at
Weyerhaeuser on February 27th. Alberni took advantage of
an early power play opportunity to get on the score board first.
Nathan Read and Beau Wilson set up Chase Gaudreault at 17:06. Seconds
later Austyn Smith took a pass from Corey Beecroft to make a 2-0
lead. Then as the first period wound down Beecroft and Gaudreault fed
Marino Somerville to go up 3-0.
Comox took one back off a turnover
early in the second period, but the Bulldogs reclaimed their 3 goal
margin before the end of the frame when Somerville passed through the
crease for Gaudreault to make his second goal in the open glove side.
Early in the third frame Wilson passed back to Read in the high slot.
Read rang a slap shot in off the left post to make it a 5-1 final.
The Bulldogs played hard throughout
the game, using their size and speed to control play and passing
well. They played short handed for much of the third period,
including two three on five situations, but their penalty kill
effectively sealed the game by shutting down Comox on all seven
attempts.

As this may be their last home game
of the season, the team really wants to thank sponsors Dave Koszegi of
ReMax, Surespan Construction and Tseshaht Market. Thank you also to
Coaches Kevin Somerville, Ron Buse and Rob Gaudreault, Conditioning
Coaches Dave and Jill Sherwood, Safety Person Bruno Visona and all the
parents for your support through the season.
